Arashiyama and Nijo Castle

On my way to Kyoto station this morning I was stopped by a group of six school children. They were all giggling and laughing as their chosen leader was pushed forward from the group to address me. They were given an assignment from their sensei to talk to a foreigner and practice their English. A few short questions such as "Where are you from?", "What is your name?", "What Japanese food do you like?" and "Is this your first time in Japan?" Afterwards we played a couple rounds of rock-paper-scissors and I lost. But, they gave me the following origami as a gift.

Their sensei had walked over while we were talking to see how her students were doing. With all of them shouting "Goodbye" and "Thank you" I continued into the station to catch my train.

I headed out to the Arashiyama area north-west of Kyoto. There was a bamboo grove with walking paths through it that I wanted to see.

Below is a selection of photos that I took in Arashiyama. More photos can be viewed in my Flickr photo album.

I then headed back into Kyoto and hopped off the train at Nijo Station so that I could visit Nijo Castle.
