A much better day

Today was a much, much better day than yesterday. I drove up the island to the Okinawa Aquarium. The drive was very easy going and I left early enough to avoid rush hour traffic in Naha. I decided to use the Okinawa Express way today instead of the smaller highways. It would be the equivalent of the 401 back home but with only 2 lanes in each direction. It is a toll road and the fee was relatively cheap for the distance I travelled, only 900 yen (about $12).

The drive was great. Very little traffic once I got away from Naha. The speed limit on the expressway is 80 km/h. Most people were driving at that speed though there were a few cars going faster in the passing lane. I had to pass someone and got up to 88 km/h. I felt like a rebel.

Okinawa Aquarium is part of a huge area called Ocean Park Expo. I was there early enough to beat the crowds and enjoy the view for a while before heading into the aquarium.

Views like this are why I came to Okinawa.

Dipping my feet in the East China Sea.

I came across the dolphin exhibit of the aquarium. There was practically no one around so I was able to get time at the glass by myself with the dolphins.

This picture alone made the whole trip worthwhile.
Smile for the camera.

I shot a short video as well.

There was also a sea turtle tank next door.

I then headed inside to the aquarium. Crowds of school groups were starting to form so as soon as I got inside I headed straight for the main event bypassing the smaller exhibits. Pictures do not do this justice.

This tank is huge and houses three whale sharks along with dozens of fish, sharks and rays.

I shot a lot more video but it will take some time to go through it all before I post it.

On the way back to Naha I stopped at a rest station along the expressway. That's when I noticed this.

Electric Car Recharging Station

It's a charging station for electric vehicles. It will probably be decades before we see these along the highways back home.
