I'm in Kanazawa now.  A 2 ½ hour train ride from Kyoto.  After arriving I walked over to Kenrokuen, a meticulously maintained Japanese landscape garden.

Meticulously maintained

While walking through the garden I happened upon a tea house.  What better place to enjoy the experience of being served Japanese tea than in Kenrokuen?

I took this last shot very quickly while walking out after finishing my tea because I didn't want to disturb the other guests.

A Japanese lady wearing a kimono brings out your tea and your sweet on a red lacquerware tray and kneels down on the tatami mat.  You are kneeled on the blue mat.  They place the tea and sweet in front of you and give a small bow and then leave you to enjoy your tea and quietly contemplate your surroundings.  Truly an amazing experience.

One of the exists from the garden led right out to Kanazawa castle.  It's a modern, concrete reconstruction so I wasn't interested in touring it but there were a few people making sketches and paintings of the castle buildings.
