Aomori Nebuta Matsuri

Today I was in Aomori for their Nebuta Matsuri (festival).  It is very similar to the Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri.  Yes, the people in Aomori spell and pronounce it Nebuta while the people in Hirosaki spell and pronounce it Neputa.  The Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori is much, much larger than Hirosaki's Neputa Matsuri.  In fact, Aomori's festival is one of the biggest summer festivals in the area.

The crowds were massive, so I spent most of my time shooting pictures and video over peoples heads.  I guess there is one benefit to being taller than most Japanese.

The best view of the Aomori skyline.  The rest was very industrial.

The crowds.

The floats in the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri are not as large as those in the Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri, but have a more 3-D look to them.  Unfortunately because it rained just before the parade started many of the floats were covered in plastic sheets.

Video of the parade to follow soon.
