Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri

The parade for the Neputa Matsuri (festival) didn't start until 7:00pm so I wandered around a quiet temple that I found near the parade route.

I then headed over to the staging area at the head of the parade.

Parade participants heading to the staging area.

Crowds were definitely beginning to gather by that time and there was a huge taiko drum on the street.

The symbol at the top of the flag is not what you think it is.

Letting children try the drum.

The crowds waiting for the parade to start.

The larger floats are directed around wires and traffic lights by men at the top.

The final group.
